The Parks & Open Spaces are currently managed by a reduced team on reduced hours during Covid-19.
The grass is being cut by a team of two on ride on mowers, at present there is no strimming or blowing, this service will be resumed fully when we are back up to full capacity after the pandemic. The team follow a tight schedule which takes place over 5-6 weeks starting in Abbey Meads, Haydon Wick, Moredon, Haydon End, Mouldon Hill and finishing up in Oakhurst. The larger open spaces are cut by an external contractor fornightly between May – September. Grass cutting is dependant on the weather and is assessed daily at the present time incase other core roles for the Council come in.
The tidy up team continue to empty the public litter bins on a Monday and a Friday with a visual check on a Wednesday. Flytipping that can be dealt by one operative is removed but if it exceeds the limit and requires two operatives it is put on a work sheet for when normal services resume.
The parks are currently closed and some of the projects are on hold, therefore, the Parks & Projects team have stepped in to help out tidy up with the bins and some areas of grounds maintenance such as planters, vehicle maintenance and some health & safety works.
We are incredibly proud of our Parks and Open Spaces Team and thank them all for their hard work during these uncertain times
