FURTHER ADVICE ON ATTENDING LEISURE GARDENS AND ALLOTMENT SITES FROM THE NATIONAL ALLOTMENT SOCIETY: Covid 19 Emergency Measures – 31.03.2020 The government is presently advising the population to stay at home and practice social distancing, whilst being allowed to take one form of exercise a day. If working your allotment is to carry on being seen as legitimate exercise then it is imperative that plot-holders follow all the guidelines, allotment sites are as risky as anywhere else. In accordance with English law Parish Councils have to hold an Annual Parish Meeting (APM) once per year. However, we’re experiencing extraordinary times so we decided to hold a virtual Annual Parish Meeting. We do hope to see many of you in person at our formal APM later in the year… We hope that this dedicated web page will engage and inform our residents about what we’ve been doing over the past year.  We will explain exciting projects we hope to do in the future, how we’ve set the next year’s budget and allocated the Precept which we need to deliver these activities.  We’ll also talk about how we’ve helped community groups and charities throughout the year with our Community Grant Scheme. And finally and most excitingly, we’ll introduce you to our brand new civic awards scheme….drum roll please…… Introducing the Haydon Wick Heroes awards where we’ll crown our very first Volunteer of Year, our first Young Achiever and the one and only Fabulous Fundraiser – these awards will acknowledge these amazing unsung heroes for all the fantastic work they do in the parish. Covid-19 How you can help the vulnerable

20th March, 2020

COVID-19 If you want to help other people…UPDATED   Vulnerable people forced to self-isolate due to the coronavirus pandemic will be offered a helping hand, thanks to a new voluntary initiative in Swindon. Swindon Parish Councils, Swindon Borough Council have both teamed up with Voluntary Action Swindon and the Volunteer Centre Swindon to help pair volunteers with those who have no one to help them during the current public health emergency. Members of the community who want to help those who are self-isolating, who do not have their own support networks, can now log their offers of support with Voluntary Action Swindon, who will work with the Councils to pair them up with those most in need. This could involve speaking to someone over the phone to offer some companionship or collecting shopping for those who are staying at home. Pam Webb, CEO of Voluntary Action Swindon, said: “If you are someone who is self- isolating or in need of non-medical assistance as a result of coronavirus, we would recommend in the first instance that you reach out to family members, neighbours and friends that you know personally. But we are very aware that there will be people in our local community for whom this is not possible. “These are the people we hope to help through our ‘Compassionate Swindon’ initiative. We also want to try and help the many charities and care services continue to thrive who are also experiencing staff and volunteer shortages due to current containment...
