Highways England; Berkshire & Swindon Weekend Closures

26th June, 2020

M4 Junctions 12 (Theale, West Berkshire) to 15 (Swindon, Wiltshire) – Weekend Closures Further to my letter in May, I wanted to advise that resurfacing work along the M4 between junctions 12 and 15 is ongoing and progressing well. In July we have the first of our weekend closures along the M4. These are required as some sections of resurfacing will replace all layers down to the foundations. To allow time for the materials to harden, we will undertake this work whilst closing the M4 over entire weekend periods. The first weekend closure is scheduled to take place from 9pm on Friday 3 July through to 6am on Monday 6 July 2020, and will be a closure of the M4 westbound carriageway between junction 13 and junction 14. Further weekend closures have been scheduled for the following dates, but are subject to change: Friday 4 to Monday 7 September – M4 westbound between junction 13 and junction 14 Friday 11 to Monday 14 September – M4 eastbound between junction 15 and junction 14 Friday 2 to Monday 5 October – M4 eastbound between junction 13 and junction 12   Significant delays are expected during these weekend closures. We advise you to plan your journey and allow extra time or avoid this route if possible.   Please be aware that due to the current Covid-19 Pandemic, all our works are subject to change due to available resource by our Supply Chain, as well as possible adverse weather conditions – confirmed...

Haydonleigh Skatepark

16th June, 2020

Work commences on Haydonleigh Skate Park, Haydon Wick, Swindon We are delighted to announce that works on the Haydonleigh Skate Park are now underway. The Parks & Projects Team made a start on dismantling the previous skate park equipment at the end of May and prepared the grounds ready for the project to begin. The project began this week with the installation of the dropped kerb; a temporary measure that is needed to safely transport the new equipment to site. The next stage is preparing the ground in readiness for the installation of the new skate park equipment and the proposed installation should start by the end of June.  Due to the Covid-19 outbreak there have understandably been delays to the start of this project as our partners have been working with limited resources.  However we are hopeful that once the wheels are in motion and installation is underway it will be a matter of weeks before the new skate park is complete. The new skate park is designed in such a way it can be used with skateboards, scooters, bikes and wheelchairs and to suit a range of ages and abilities. You can view the 3D model so that you can see just how much of an impressive structure this will be within our parish by following this link:  https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/415-haydonwick-tenderdesign-annotated-1164b2e754244ffc9f259dcfa7d38f8f Once complete, we hope that we open the park safely and in line with the latest Government guidance at the time.  More about this as the installation...

Volunteer Week – 1st June 2020

1st June, 2020

It is Volunteer Week! We had many projects scheduled for this week with local companies such as repainting play areas, planting wildflower seeds, leisure garden maintenance and so on. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, these have been rescheduled for a later date. Instead, we will continue to recognise our volunteers and their efforts on the community response work and efforts to keep the parish tidy during the pandemic. Starting with Mark & Lisa who are both employed by the Council. Mark was a key member of the team during the beginning of the pandemic when we were working with reduced staff, now that other staff have returned, Mark continues to work on his usual duties for the Parks & Projects Team. Lisa is the Cleaner/Caretaker and has to take on additional deep cleaning duties for the Community Bus, Parks & Open Spaces Depot and the Council Offices. As well as their usual duties, they have both been volunteering for Homeground Pharmacy and Swindon Borough Council by delivering medications to the most vulnerable. As they live local to Haydon Wick, they are often called upon out of hours to help out our local residents and we really appreciate their efforts. Thank you and keep up the good...

Drawing/Photography Competition

27th May, 2020

We have been running competitions for the Children of the parish over the last few weeks, to help keep them busy and motivated by learning something new and giving them prizes. We appreciate that they are going through an incredibly tough time not seeing their friends, being at school or seeing their grandparents, etc. The response we have received from parents has been phenomenal. The winner of last weeks photography/drawing competition was Harley, age 9, for sending us this snap of ‘fly alley’. The description made us smile and may even be used as a reference for the alley, for us internally moving forward! “We use this path to get to school and it’s become a favourite in our family. We have competitions to run down it the fastest and see how long we can hold our breath so we don’t eat any of the many flies that always seem to be there.” Great job Harley, your prize is on its way to...
