Hedge & Bush Cutting Schedule 2017/18

Posted on 23rd August, 2017 in News

Following the end of the nationally accepted moratorium on hedge/bush cutting, which runs between end April to early/mid September, the Council has put in place a schedule for the 2017/18 hedge/bush cutting plan commencing in September 2017. The details are shown below and may need to be altered due to weather conditions:

Abbeymeads  4th Sep – 22nd Sep

Oakhurst 25th Sep – 6th Oct

Taw Hill/Haydon End 9th Oct – 27th Oct

Haydon Wick/Greenmeadow 30th Oct – 10th Nov

The programme will require the contractor to cut from the ground in each area before deploying a tractor and flail to follow up behind the cutting team. All debris will be removed by the contractor. The proposed dates for flail cutting are the week of the 9th Oct and the week of the 13th November, please note that after the flail has been used the hedge/bush will have a severe look, this is normal and the vegetation will grow back. In March/April 2018 a second lighter cut will take place to help control the growth next year. The dates of this cut will be made available next year. This pattern of cutting will be repeated in following years. Unfortunately the cut in March 2017 did not take place which resulted in the overgrowth throughout the Parish.

To ensure that the grass cutting is kept to schedule the Council has asked the contractor to bring in an additional 2 members of staff for the month of September.
